Now I’ve migrated and am about to merge, but will i still have access to the 600+ people on the old site once I merge or do I have to have them all join that page?

Hi Ray, all of your friends will become likes on your new business page. Sometimes if people have a business page and personal account, some of their friends already like their business page and hence they won’t increase the likes on the page in migrating.

The main issue people have with migrating is losing the content on the wall of their old personal page however as fans rarely look back through your content, as long as you’re posting regularly on your new page, it won’t be an issue. Hope that helps!

so on my new merged page now, I don’t see my old friends, only personal friends that had already gone to my new business page. All those from the old page are no longer there, but as they are likes, they can still see all of my posts even if they don’t show up as friends on my new merged page.?

I have personal profile and business Page already set up. They are linked but they have diffeent log ins. I am trying to claim page URL for my business Page but get error message ‘This user is not eligible to claim a username’. Do I need to create new profile with same name and log in details as for page? I’m no Facebook expert so am reluctant to meddle. My Page is newis so don’t want to lose what I have started.

Hi Ray, it can be a tricky one. If it is the case that you had +600 Friends on the original personal page and after the merge some of these were lost, in our experience it can often take a couple of days for these friends to automatically convert to ‘Likes’ on the migrated Business page. Therefore it is possible they had not all been converted before you merged your two business pages and unfortunately got lost.

But if it is the case that when you migrated the personal page you were left with two business pages, one with +600 ‘Likes’ and the other with more. The page with the most ‘Likes’ is the one you would have merged therefore essentially deleting the duplicate page so the +600 ‘Likes’ on the now deleted page have been lost as Facebook assumes they already ‘Like’ your other business page. I hope that helps to explain?

Hi Sheila, when creating a Facebook business page you have to login to a personal account in order to create it, this personal account member then becomes an Admin for the business page in order to make changes to the business page.

It sounds to me like the business personal profile which you will eventually want to migrate is not an Admin for the business page so when you are logging in through that page you cannot make changes to the business page. In order to make the personal profile an Admin you must login using the login details the business page was created with and add the personal business profile as an Admin. Follow the steps here to add an Admin. I hope that helps!

    Hi there,

I’ve tried to migrate a profile to a page with no luck… it has just created a page instead (where the profile is the administrator)!

    http://www.facebook.com/whitehotvanman

I need to migrate to a page, then merge that with another page! very frustrating!

    Please help!

Hi Karen, It sounds like for some reason the personal profile (the link you provided) didn’t shut down perhaps because you needed an Admin assigned to your new page to access it. But if the 304 friends have converted to ‘Likes’ on the new business page you don’t really need that personal profile any more.

I would suggest one of two things, either add yourself as an Admin of the Business page from your own personal account. None of your personal information will be shared it just means that you will be able to post as ‘Whitehotvanman’ by switching to that page by choosing it from the drop down menu that will appear when you click on the star in the top right hand corner of your profile. Then just delete or shut down that old personal profile. You can find instructions here.

Alternatively you can change the privacy settings of the personal profile to ‘only me’ but this is not ideal as friends of that profile can still view it and see past posts so I would recommend the first option. I hope that helps?

I followed your steps and created a business page from the personal profile.
Personal Profile: Neil Johnson 922 Friends
Created NEW page: North Star outfitting – Neil Johnson – 0 likes, no pics – none of the 922 friends transferred.
Existing page: North Star Outfitting – Neil Johnson 128 Likes

Queston: Do i have to wait a period of time for the friends to transfer to likes on the new page before I merge the existing page with the “new” page? i’m confused as to which page I merge… Do I go to the existing page with 128 likes and click Merge Duplicate Pages link and merge the new existing page with 0 likes, what happens with 922 friends that never got moved… if I merge the new with the existing it will delete the new and those 922 friends won’t transfer??? OR do I go to the new page with 0 likes and merge with the existiing page with 128 likes? Maybe I’m overthinking???

Hi Lynn, Thanks for getting in touch. It can take a bit of time to complete the ‘friends’ to ‘Likes’ transfer especially when the number is high, can I ask when you started the migration and if any have converted to ‘Likes’? I would advise waiting to see if you can resolve this problem first before completing the merge as if the 922 friends have not converted to ‘Likes’ they will be lost if you complete the migration. If you are still having problems I would suggest you report the issue to Facebook here https://www.facebook.com/help/contact/164405897002583 Don’t mention the existing business page for the moment just ask them why the friends have not converted to ‘Likes’, you may have to submit the help request a few times until you get an answer but it is worth pursuing.

With the page merge, it is normally the page with the most ‘Likes’ that will have the merge duplicate to pages option so currently if they 922 friends have not transferred it is the existing page with 128 ‘Likes’ you can merge. But Yes if you merge the two pages essentially the one with the less ‘Likes’ is deleted so if those friends have not transferred they will be lost. So I would suggest resolving the friends transfer issue with the new page first before going any further. I hope that helps

Emma, Thanks for your quick response! I did the migration yesterday and checked again today and the friends still have not transferred to likes on the new page…

When i go to the new page with no likes and click “Resources” there’s a message there that says,
Choose the Page you want to keep: Both pages show up in the drop down box…both named North Star Outfitting – Neil Johnson.

Then it says, “After we verify your request, likes and check-ins will be combined on the destination Page. All other content on the Pages you’re merging will be permanently deleted.”

Ultimately i want to keep the existing page with all the photos, albums, posts, etc. that I created for the business a few months ago and move the 922 friends from the new page to the original page…

I’m guessing i have to get those 922 friends to transfer to likes first then choose the original page as the one I want to keep and FB will merge the 922 friends?

Can anyone clarify me. I am having one personal as well as one business facebook page. If i am having more than 2 different business websites means I need to create separate facebook for each business or i can have all the business pages in single account.

    Thanks

    Hi Guys

I recently created a brand new Business FB page, without realising that FB don’t allow someone to have 2 accounts. So I’m following your instructions to merge and have successfully downloaded my info. I’m trying to change my name but FB won’t allow it.

I want to keep the likes I have for my Business FB page as I managed to pester people to get the 30 likes needed to access the insights feature.

Any idea why I can’t change my name as per your instructions?

Many thanks for any help you can provide :)

I’d also like to note that I wish to keep my personal profile 100% separate from my business page (don’t want my clients to see me swearing!) I started a brand new business page with my work email jason@jasonkingconsultancy.co.uk, but then added my personal email address to make me an admin. Do I require a merge or is it sufficient to simply, keep myself as the 2 admin with 2 email accounts? I worked so hard to get my business FB likes I’m petrified of losing them. I’m of the understanding that FB can then close my FB Business page if I’ve created 2 pages in my real name (which I have, by mistake!)

In my business I will be creating FB Business pages for my clients so your help will be truly appreciated.
    Thanks again :)

Well bad news everyone… Facebook has never transferred the 900+ likes to the new facebook page. They do not respond to emails either so I’m out of ideas…. I’m perplexed why Facebook makes it so difficult to transfer friends to likes – kinda bad for any business if they can’t get their friends to their business page automatically.
    Any clues?

Hi there, we have merged our profile and business page and the friends appear to have transferred over, however now our problem is that our home page has disappeared and we can’t search for new pages to like/share etc. All we have at the top of our page is a “settings” and “log out” button and all we can view now is our own page. We have contacted FB without any joy and changed our language to English UK as someone suggested but does anyone here have any ideas how we could get our home page back? Many thanks in advance :)

I have a non profit and started a page on FB but I can’t interact with other non profits from it. I can’t like anyone’s page, I can’t add anyone, I can’t browse or search and I can’t send messages, because I don’t have the option to “use FB as”. What’s the point of the business page! People decided to use FB business pages because of the good experiences they had with the personal profile pages. The business pages are static and boring, they are not interactive. Linked in is actually getting better than FB at this point. FB already has the features so its no rocket science to include them on the business page. This just causes people to leave their pages dormant and look for a better option.

This is great, helped me a lot. Maybe a silly question or I’m not looking hard enough, but how exactly do we get what we’ve saved in the Archive thing that takes all your photos, posts etc. and saves them in a file, back onto the merged page? I’ve got the .zip file, but where do I upload it to get everything back? No other issues otherwise, fantastic piece!

Hi. I have a business account but no personal account. From what I am reading I should have created a personal account first and then made a separate business page. But since I made that mistake, How could I add a person account to my business. Should I just go open a separate personal account and then follow the steps on here to merge them?? I don’t know what to do…Any help would be appreciated Please!

I am trying to do just as you have suggested, but when I take the existing facebook account and try to make it the same name as the business page I want to merge with it says “you already have a page with this name…do you want to GO to this page”. So am I missing something?? Thanks for your help.

I created a personal page, Scotia Ireland, in order to manage a business page, The Scotia Academy. I want to merge them into one page but it says that in order to do this the names must be similar and both must be Business Pages.

Facebook won’t allow the word Academy in a personal page so I used Ireland instead. In order to merge the two pages I must migrate the personal page (Scotia Ireland) to a Business page with a similar name to the existing Business Page, namely The Scotia Academy.

But now Facebook won’t let me change the name of the Personal Page to Scotia Academy when I migrate as it is too dis-similar to Scotia Ireland.

I am afraid that if I migrate the personal page to a business page with a name that is not similar with the existing business page then I will not be able to merge them afterwards as the two business pages will have names that are too dis-similar.

Can you follow the logic?? What happens now?? Must I lose one page? And, if i just delete the Personal Page, will I lose the associated Business Page? Will I have to transfer admin of the Business Page to my own personal Personal Page?

But I need to keep it unpublished because I have another page, which is my real Fan Page, with the same name. Will my friends transfer as ‘likes’ if the new page is unpublished?

I can see pages, but I am not an admin, and I ca’t move further then that link which is telling me I have to create a page or advertisment… It seems like this is an “orphan FB profile”, since I can’t access my page, because I am not an admin of it, and I can’t make myself an admin anymore, because Fb won\t let me go further then this page https://www.facebook.com/advertising

Now I understand this is not allowed and I want to merge both the new account with the existing business page. Everything is very new so I only have about 15 likes on the business page. From what I have been reading I need to log into the account, and convert the account into a new page with the same name, then merge the new page with the existing page making the destination keeping photos and likes etc. By doing this the old account will no longer exist and I can log into the “new” page with the same login?

“3. Under Resources, if you have 2 Pages with similar names, there will be a Merge Duplicate Pages link. Click on it, and in the popup window you’ll see a list of Pages that you administer that can be merged. Select the Page you want to merge. Click Merge Page.”
